I am the Best!

A few days back I posted this question on our main QnA forum.

A colleague of mine is having trouble with his boss. As per him the boss is highly unplanned man which results in immense work pressure throughout the month on some or the other pending topic. For Ex. A hiring request of 50 no. was raised by Operation which he sat on for 1 week and then released it on a Friday stating that the number needs to be met by Wednesday. Then training had to be done in fast track mode as well to release people on time to Operations. The deptt is perpetually fire fighting on some or other issue like this. He tried talking, planning and even escalating however to no avail. Any ideas on how to handle this.

Some of the answers I got ranged from “Its pressure that turns carbon in diamond”.
“so what the boss is not, he can be planned”
“have RIGHT ATTITUDE”
“think out of the box”
“be the solution and not problem”……etc. etc.

Agreed!
To be honest I have both received and said these words at every opportunity, sometimes even created opportunities to say these simply for the kick of it. Are we really being honest? Do we not ALL perpetually complain and crib about bosses and organizations.

A study has suggested that “People join organizations and leave managers”. A study! A statistical study. With average tenure falling to just a couple of years across industries and levels, whom are we kidding. Why are we shying away from issues like these which affects everybody. Is it seriously that impossible to look for a realistic solution.

Everybody believes that they are not as lucky as their bosses, in terms of reportees. I have even heard phrases like “imagine if everybody works like me”. Well I almost blurted out then the world would be quiet boring.

Its like saying so what the leader is bad, you can still be good. For that matter its poor leadership that germinates excellent fruits. Why are we not addressing the LEADERSHIP. Forget the reportee, or his incompetence. As leader Am I not supposed to plan for it? Am I not supposed to be a notch better? Why are we justifying and what are we justifying. Poor Leadership. Then why do we complain about Politicians. They are following exactly this principle-So what we are poor, you can still be excellent. For that matter we are creating pressure for making diamond out of you otherwise you are just a piece of carbon.
My point is why are we trying to convert every bit of carbon in diamond. When you are using carbon-KNOW IT. And more so accept it. The basic matter in everybody is carbon, Diamonds can simply be bought.
